Canvas – Analytics
Track Student Usage to Promote Student Success
PURPOSE:
Analytics allows instructors to track individual student’s usage of Canvas, assignment submissions, communications with instructor, and grade information. This is essential when meeting with students and guardians about student success and goal setting.
LOCATION:
Information regarding all roles connected to a Canvas course is located under the People option from the course menu.
- Click on People to observe course roster.
- Select a student name and a snapshot window will appear on the right side of the screen.
- Select Grades or Analytics within the snapshot window to observed detailed information about student usage.
FEATURES:
Analytics provides student data connected to four sections. Each section provides a snapshot of student performance in a Canvas course.
ACTIVITY BY DATE
View number of pages viewed and actions taken (i.e. responding to a discussion or submitting an assignment) by date.
COMMUNICATION
Track the number of emails sent to course instructor and the number of responses sent by course instructor.
SUBMISSIONS
Observe number of assignments submitted by student and whether submissions were made on time, late, or missing.
GRADES
Track student performance in comparison to peers within the course.
