In an effort to support online and blended learning in the state, the Nevada Department of Education has partnered with the Canvas Learning Management System by Instructure. All educators in the state will have access and all 6-12 students will have state-funded subscriptions for the 2020-2021 school year. Elementary state-funded subscriptions will be added in the 2021-2022 school year. In addition, standards-aligned curriculum in all core subject areas will be made available through the Nevada Commons area within Canvas. This curriculum, and others currently under development by Nevada educators, may be used for instruction in both online and blended-learning models.
Transitioning current curricula to the Canvas platform, will assist educators to shift very easily between face-to-face and online learning in any situation. Canvas also connects with most other resources: Google Apps, Brain Pop, Cengage, K-12, Apex, Discovery Education, FlipGrid, Khan Academy, MathType, McGraw-Hill, Office 365, MyOn, OER Commons, Pearson, Rosetta Stone, and a host of others.
Professional development on the Canvas platform, the statewide curriculum offering, and a host of other topics are available through the Nevada Department of Education and our Digital Engineers Program .
